Flash Lee!

This year we rescued a Greyhound from Greyhounds Unlimited.  Flash is 7 and used to be a racer.  Check out his racing record and lineage at Greyhound Data...his racing name was Bee Sting. He raced 49 times in Corpus Christi and LaMarque, TX near Houston. He got 1st place 6 times and 2nd place 5 times. He raced in 2003, 2004, and 2005. The Greyhound Data website allows you to trace each racing greyhound's lineage back to the 1800's in some cases by looking up their ear tattoo number.

Here is Flash's ancestor from 1848, Figaro.  When you get back to the 1800's the pictures are sketches.

There are many misconceptions about Greyhounds but we have found the following to be true with Flash.

Typically, a retired track greyhound is good natured, clean, quiet, and very gentle. There is little difference in temperament between males and females, but the males do seem sweeter. Very true!  Because they may have been around many other dogs and many different people in their track life, the greyhounds do well in homes as companion pets. They are affectionate and loyal. They continue to enjoy exercise, but require far less than one might imagine. A long walk or romp in an enclosed area 2 to 3 times a week will do. Because they are "sight hounds" a greyhound must always be kept on a leash when not in an enclosed area. Much of the time, they are very content to relax on a soft bed or sleep. In fact, they make very good apartment/condominium pets. Greyhounds are extremely sensitive and intelligent animals and respond quickly to training. Because of their docile nature and their tendency not to bark much, they usually don't make good "watch" dogs; however many instances have been reported of alerting family members to emergency situations.

Here's our boy!  7 years old (considered a Senior).  We are very happy to have him in our lives!
